In October 2021, a Red Lion team Kaizen event focused on removing waste from their packaging processes. A standard approach to packaging was created to reduce the complexity of the packaging process and reduce the use of plastic.

The results brought tremendous impact for both the businesses' bottom-line and the reduction of their environmental footprint.

The sustainability impact included the annual reduction in paper products equal to 288 trees and elimination of 350,000 plastic bags (equiv. to 17 tCO2e  per year)

Wider annual cost savings included - Material: $10,867, Labor: $36,000

Building on this success, Red Lion are establishing a new internal mindset focusing on their impact reduction and they are creating a packaging methodology that can be extrapolated and applied across all their manufacturing cells and production areas.
