My career at Spectris began in 2021, when I joined Malvern Panalytical as a Technical Author. This job challenged me way more than I could have expected! My day-to-day work requires being aware of many aspects of the business, such as mechanical solutions in our instruments, numerous software packages used in the company, marketing department guidelines, some aspects of the international and local law regulations, and much more!
Preparing valid documentation requires cooperation with many specialists from different departments. Thanks to that I learn something new each time a project gets assigned to me. In 2022 I got an amazing opportunity to be a part of the founder group of Young MP – the internal association for early career colleagues in Malvern Panalytical in the Netherlands. Together we’re doing our best to build a friendly environment, where the youngest employees can connect to each other, develop themselves personally and career-wise during our events, and find opportunities to use their talents also outside of the Young MP group. I’m very happy that although my primary occupation requires mainly the technical skills, my other assets, such as organizational and people skills were also recognized and used well within the Spectris Group!

I joined Spectris over 10 year ago as part of the legal team, having previously practiced corporate law in a law firm. My role was to support mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the group.
During my time at Spectris I have been involved in c.50 acquisitions of varying sizes and types and in a range of different jurisdictions. I have also been a part of 7 full divestments. All those projects have presented different challenges but I have been fortunate enough to interact with some amazing people, travel and experience different business cultures. One day I can be dealing with a big corporate selling a division, the next day I may be negotiating with an entrepreneur about acquiring the business which they have founded.
Being involved in large projects means I have had the opportunity to work with a large number of people across the group from a variety of different backgrounds, enabling me to look at M&A transactions form all perspectives. In 2020, Spectris gave me the opportunity to head up a small but very talented M&A team and together with our colleagues across the business we have closed some significant transactions in very challenging circumstances while at the same time making significant improvements to our M&A process.”

I joined Malvern Panalytical in October 2019 following my PhD in Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg. My current role as a Product technical Specialist sees me deliver training and applications support to customers, collaborators, and colleagues on our Mastersizer and Spraytec instruments. I am also involved in marketing activities, including writing application notes and blog posts, presenting in webinars and conferences, and creating video content. All of this adds up to create a very varied role, which has allowed me to broaden my scientific knowledge and further develop my communications skills.
I wanted to build my career in an international environment and in a role that delivers impactful results for people, and this has certainly begun well with Malvern Panalytical. Working with colleagues and partners from across the world means there is something different to get stuck into every day and seeing how customers use our instruments to improve products and processes in a vast range of application areas is very rewarding.

I started my career at Spectris Asia as the internal auditor where I audited core business processes and advised on fraud & ethics-related risks. Over the course of six years, I visited many Spectris Asia offices and OpCos’ headquarters, and had the chance to get to know a lot of colleagues in different OpCos and functional teams. I am impressed with all the people I’ve met are very professional and passionate for work.
After that I joined Spectris China G&A team as the finance manager and supported local business operations for various OpCos where I am able to apply my previous audit experience in the role and work with the team to strengthen the company’s control and compliance processes.
Thereafter, I was given another amazing opportunity to progress and became the Head of Asia Finance & FPA in Servomex. My role is a finance business partner to help achieve the company objectives and deliver our strategy.
Looking back at the more than 10years I have been working in the company, I take pride in working here with the great team who have a real passion for supporting each other and our customers.

I joined HBK in 2017 after a masters program in electrical engineering focused on Electric vehicle propulsion systems. I started in a sales role selling the whole portfolio, which was a great opportunity to learn the whole company, before moving into my role as business development for electrification. I have recently moved form the USA to Japan where I am now the head of business development for Asia where we are starting a team focused on growing our strategic applications.
Business development consists of a lot of internal and external networking which makes it a fun role because every day is a bit different. One day I would be representing HBK at a conference trying to meet new potential customers and the next day I could be conducting internal training to raise our internal knowledge on topics like electrification. Overall my team has 3 main goals: find new business, establish HBK as a thought leader, and feedback on my findings to product management.
I enjoy my role because I am able to meet many of our customers who are working on very cutting edge projects. It is a dream job for someone technical who wants to learn about many different customers and applications. HBK also has many internal experts who I can consult on different industries or applications. Our customers respect the expertise we have and that makes the job fun. Being a global company, HBK also allows me the opportunity to work with colleagues from around the world which is a lot of fun for a guy who grew up on a farm in the middle of America.

I joined Servomex from Honeywell in 2007 as Global Marketing Director based in Crowborough UK. Four years later my role was expanded to include the company’s engineering functions, then in 2014 I relocated to Woburn Massachusetts to become Site Leader for our rapidly expanding US Technology Centre with responsibilities for Operations, R&D and Product Marketing.
In 2017 Servomex restructured itself into three customer focussed multi-disciplined Business Units (BUs) and I took the role of BU Director for the Purity and Specialty BU – focussed on Semiconductor and Industrial Gasses market sectors. With a background in technology (PhD in Laser Physics), my core motivation is derived from innovating new (product) technologies to solve our customers business problems and help them achieve their strategic objectives. In my current role, I am privileged to lead a multidisciplined team world-class technologists and professionals with responsibilities across the whole product lifecycle – from initial VOC investigations through, to product launch and on to continuously improving manufacturing excellence and customer satisfaction.
I also head up Servomex’s Sustainability Team. Working closely with other Spectris Opcos, we have recently completed a set of Product Sustainability Assessment tools. Deploying these tools within the future Product Rolling Road will enable us closely align with our customer’s sustainability strategies by continuously reducing environmental impact of our products and services.

My career at Spectris began with my role as the Travel Programme Specialist and Intranet Manager where I learnt the ins and outs of the business and soon became an expert on the travel policy and our internal intranet. As my knowledge developed and we moved through the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for our communications channels became vital. Simultaneously, I also became passionate about corporate sustainability and social responsibility.
I was given an amazing opportunity to progress and became the Group Communications and Sustainability Manager where I am now able to apply my passion for sustainability and experience in communications to my role. The business also supported me to study a short course at the Institute for Sustainability Leadership at Cambridge University which enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of corporate sustainability issues.
Every day in my job is totally different - having a mixed role in a diverse Group like Spectris has enabled me to be challenged, learn, and adapt every day. My role is fast-paced, meaningful and rewarding and I am fortunate enough to work with teams across the globe to collaborate and solve challenging issues together. Working at Spectris has allowed me to continue to develop both personally and professionally by driving impact every day.

My career at Spectris began with my role as the Sr. HR Manager – APAC for PMS from 2018 where I enlarged my scope and experience from Greater China to Asia Pac. In that role I enjoyed learning from the businesses, processes and the culture from different countries. As the HR business partner, I was also given the opportunity to be involved in the company’s business planning process which enables me to better understand the business needs where I can better apply my HR expertise to support the business development… All this made me feel valuable and passionate.
In early 2021, I got the opportunity to be internally transferred to MalverPanalytical to take on the APAC HR Manager role as well as the HRBP for two global functions. I feel great that both businesses and Spectris support my career development across different businesses and I was able to learn new things…different products, bigger business size and vertically managed organizational structure, which are new and exciting for me. The new position brings me new exposure and development opportunity to support a number of global projects and initiatives where I can continue to gain new knowledge and experience.
The journey within Spectris has enabled me to be challenged, to learn, and adapt to changes every day. It has been indeed a valuable and rewarding experience and I am fortunate enough to work with great people and teams around the globe. I truly feel that I’m growing together with the business!

I started at HBK as a Senior Embedded Software Developer in 2013 where I was given the great opportunity to add new functionality to our Test & Measurement portfolio and improve my skillset with state-of-the-art development methodologies. After gaining some knowledge of the internal processes, I was able to play a key role when we started the journey to become more agile in R&D. I really enjoyed that part of the job since it was the first time in my career where I could scale improvements beyond my own tasks as a developer.
During the following years I moved across multiple roles in Embedded Software, Sensor Development and Business Process Excellence. I am currently heading the Center of Excellence Instruments and Sensors where I can bring everything, I learned during my journey within HBK to good use. My team and I are working in an international setup and collaborating with other parts of the organization. We are very proud that we can support HBK keeping the status as a technology leader across different industries. We are continuously improving ourselves, our processes, and our technology to be able to stay ahead of the competition.
HBK provided me with the possibility to grow personally and work in a high-tech environment. As an engineer, I enjoy solving problems and improving things. I like working with experts all around the world. That is what HBK is offering day after day and that is what gives me fulfilment and lets me take on every challenge, that my work presents to me.

I started my career as a temporary worker in the sample preparation lab at Philips Analytical where I’ve made the samples for my colleagues in the applications laboratory in a way that they are suitable for measuring with X-ray fluorescence (XRF). These samples are coming form (potential) customers that would like to see what the XRF technique can do for them.
After a half year of working, the company became PANalytical (and therefore a part of Spectris) and there was also an opportunity for me to stay longer at the company. I gladly accepted this offer and after time I’ve become a sample preparation specialist for the XRF and (partly) the XRD technique. Which means that I’m not only making samples, but I also look for the most suitable way to do that and to see if it fits with the specific needs of the customer.
Another part of my job which I really like, is to give training to colleagues and customers about sample preparation.
Besides my work in the lab, I’m also a part of the work council in the Netherlands. A work council is a group, delegated by employees to represent their interests to their employers. In this role I’ve broadened my horizon by learning a lot about not technical subjects, like (safe) working conditions for employees and strategy for the company.

At the age of 18 I joined Malvern Panalytical on a four-year Engineering Apprenticeship where I gained experience in our Operations, Process Automated Solutions (PAS), Manufacturing Engineering, Research and Development and Sustaining departments. Simultaneously, I completed a HNC (Higher National Certificate) in Mechanical Engineering which helped me develop the practical and theoretical knowledge that I applied to my day-to-day work.
After completing my apprenticeship, I continued my career with Malvern Panalytical as a Junior Mechanical Engineer. In this role, I designed and tested new products whilst using agile planning and Lean Six Sigma tools. I was also given the opportunity to study a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, further developing my skillset.
Now, I am a Project Engineer in PAS where I manage and plan customer projects which are often bespoke, automated solutions. This includes communicating with Operations, Electronics Engineers, Mechanical Engineers and suppliers, while also liaising with the customers themselves. I thoroughly enjoy working in the PAS department, not only do the projects keep you on your toes with their quick turnover but learning about how our technology is applied is also very interesting. It is a joy working with such an honest, supportive and encouraging team.

I joined the Spectris group in 2009 following the acquisition by Particle Measuring Systems (Spectris company since 1972) of the company I had been working for since 2003, as Engineering Manager of the design and installation team of monitoring systems (field of industrial automation) for the pharmaceutical industries. I continued my growth in R&D, completing it with experiences in marketing as a product line manager (with relative master in Marketing Management sponsored by Particle Measuring Systems), becoming the director of engineering for the Life Science part in 2016.
Since 2022 I also have the role of Managing Director of the Italian branch, thanks to the MBA that Particle Measuring Systems sponsored.
Working for the Spectris group has therefore given me the opportunity to grow and build the conditions to seize the various opportunities and challenges that have presented themselves to me. Reason why I have reconfirmed my interest over the years.
The work environment has always been based on collaboration and the awareness that to be successful (both for the company and for oneself) it is necessary to work as a team.

I started working for HBK in production engineering as a working student shortly after I passed my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Technical University of Darmstadt with honours. Besides studying, I want to gain hands-on experience for my future profession and get direct insight into today’s industry.
My focus at the HBK Darmstadt plant is on the digitalization of the production processes and machinery. By implementing modern digitalization solutions like IIoT, I directly help to improve the efficiency of production processes. Data acquisition, data processing, and data visualization are essential for gaining a deep understanding of internal processes and help to keep the company competitive. Furthermore, it allows producing more eco-friendly and conserving precious resources by supporting energy management.
In my day-to-day work at HBK, around 15 hours per week, I get the opportunity to improve my skills, learn about important topics, directly apply my knowledge from university and challenge myself every day. I am proud to be part of a team that knows about the importance of innovation. To support shaping the future of the company and knowing about the relevance of my work is a great incentive to me.

My career at Malvern Panalytical began taking a Year in Industry as part of my Undergraduate degree. My role as a Junior Development Scientist allowed me to see research and development in action, to see my innovative ideas be developed and built into world-leading products and engage with experts in my field both as colleagues and mentors. One aspect I particularly enjoyed during my first role at Malvern Panalytical was seeing the cross functional team rapidly respond to customer issues; the co-ordination of this effort to resolution is what originally sparked my interest in Project Management as a future career.
I was given a fantastic opportunity to return to Malvern Panalytical on completion of my degree as a Graduate Project Co-ordinator, the business eagerly supported me in exploring an entirely different career path. Since taking this role I have been able to study and become qualified by the Association of Project Management to enhance my understanding of the role and promote future career progression.
Each day in my job, I feel able to influence my colleagues to operate as a highly functioning team, whilst also having valuable input to business processes and excitingly, flagship products. Project Management allows me to remain within the Scientific industry in which I qualified, continue to use critical thinking and data analysis techniques but also remain focused on our people in a fast-paced environment.

After many years of working in several very demanding high tech companies, I listed the must-have elements for my next company and job. For me it had to include high tech, innovation and above all leading people, teams and organisations to reach their next levels and being greater than the “sum of parts”. Malvern Panalytical / Spectris covered all these tick marks and went even beyond by aiming and maintaining very high standards on business ethics, integrity, safety and people in general. What a Company!
I started leading the passionate XRAY Tube development team in The Netherlands / Eindhoven and we boosted the team by setting up the Technology road map and project portfolio and having clear roles and responsibilities. That makes my day to day work for XRAY Tube development like proudly operating a well-oiled R&D machine. In parallel I started to lead an Almelo R&D outsourcing SW project, taking up an interim role leading the Almelo SW team and by now stepping into the role of leading the very challenging multi-disciplinary New Product Development of our fabulous future XRF/XRD systems.
Day to day work of the total package luckily contains a big chunk of technical innovations and I have the focus to build the teams and organization driving our teams on passion and their talents to meet our commitments. In our organisation we do have the best of the best Detailed Loving Geeks and for me it is an honour to work in such an environment and create great products and value for our customers. “I like roller coasters” instead of taking the train and I definitely found mine in Malvern Panalytical.

At the beginning of my mechanical engineering studies, I ventured directly into industry at Hottinger Brüel & Kjær, a Spectris Group company, as a working student at the Darmstadt site. Here I was responsible for the evaluation and analysis of key figures in the production for torque transducer. To develop my skills furthermore, I later moved to the Research and Development department for torque transducer.
During my thesis I got the chance to apply as a Development Engineer and was able to prevail myself in the application process. In the new role, I now have the ambition to make use of the practical and theoretical knowledge I gathered during my working student activity. Also our academy offers a lot of courses to further develop professional knowledge to be able to use this even better for new product developments.
On the day-to-day basis there are new challenges that need to be solved. So every day there is the opportunity to go above and beyond and provide our customers with product enhancements. The early start here at Spectris made it possible for me to develop personally and professionally very quickly. From day one I was able to apply the theory directly in practice and I’m now looking forward to continuing my path for the Spectris Group and to the new challenges that lie ahead.

I joined the MicroCal R&D team (Malvern-Panalytical) in 2019. Since then, I have served as a Development Scientist, working mainly on projects devoted to scouting and developing technologies for drug discovery. My contribution to these projects has been, to a great extent, related to identifying strategies to mitigate sources of uncertainties and error in the technologies we produce in MicroCal.
In 2019, I was given the opportunity to take a course on Design for Six Sigma (DfSS), which has become my latest passion. I currently try to serve my team utilizing the DfSS tools to guide the design of the Next Generation of Calorimeters, centring the improvements on customers’ expectations and needs. I also serve the MicroCal community by identifying parameters that are critical to the quality of our current instruments and developing measurement systems for the characterization of their components.
The R&D work at MicroCal is fascinating and challenging: we are constantly working on a different project, which forces us to continue learning new things and grow scientifically and professionally.
