Coin production increased by 20%
German company Schuler's coining presses produce around
80% of the world's coins. Prior to the introduction of the euro
in 2002, the presses had to work at full speed. With the help
of HBM's measurement technology, which accurately monitors
the force used in minting, Schuler were able to guarantee the
output and performance of their machines and their European
clients were able to fulfil ambitious targets for supplying the
new coins on time. Schuler's latest generation of minting
machines are equipped with HBM's instrumentation and
customised software. These new presses operate at speeds
around 20% higher than the previous machines, resulting
in an additional 150 coins produced per minute. |
Paper mill
downtime reduced
SCA Hygiene Products' mill in Mannheim, Germany,
is the largest tissue mill in Europe, with a production
capacity of more than 260,000 tonnes of tissue per
year. Changing to using BTG's slow-wearing ceramic
Duroblade® instead of conventional steel blades has
reduced the number of blade changes on the tissue
machines, thus decreasing the amount of downtime
and lost production. An increase in blade lifetime from
an average of 2.2 hours per blade to over 40 hours has
resulted in a significant increase in tonnes of tissue
produced per year. A further benefit from the ceramic
blades is more consistent tissue quality. |

Mineral processing throughput up 60%
Hoben Industrial Minerals, based in England, are specialists in processing
hard minerals to fine powders. Following installation of a Malvern in-line
particle size analyser, product consistency and mill control has been improved
and the manpower required to run the unit substantially reduced. The silica
sand processing mill now operates around the clock and throughput has
increased by 60%. In addition, Hoben's ability to produce a more closely-specified
product consistently has helped its customers to access new markets. |
