US company Conveyor Technologies designs, develops and manufactures material-handling systems for electronic assemblies and other in-line assembly applications. The company introduced a bar code laser marking system with automatic bar code marking and placement to address the problem of lack of space and the need for more data on printed circuit boards (PCBs). Microscan's scanners are used to verify, trace and log the laser-marked data matrix code embedded on the PCB at each stage of the assembly process. Should the system detect a board that is poorly marked, it can be removed from the production line before it is populated with electronic circuitry, thus speeding up production and reducing costs.
