Faced with increasingly competitive markets for its board products, paper manufacturer Stora Enso needed to improve its performance. At its mill in Barcelona, Spain, the company produces a chipboard based on fibres from recycled paper such as newspapers, magazines and telephone directories. Using BTG's instrumentation to optimise additives in the production process has greatly reduced the need for chemicals and resulted in fewer breaks in the web, bringing higher productivity and savings of more than €500,000 per year in chemical costs alone.
