Fast and accurate process control is essential for cost-effective production in a steel plant. Anglo-Dutch steel producer Corus uses PANalytical’s turn-key laboratory solutions to automate iron, steel and slag analysis, yielding better quality steel, tight process control and eliminating rejects. 18,000 samples are processed each month using automatic systems, with 10 to 18 elements being analysed for each sample. The result is that response time (and hence analysis time) is more constant, and thus more predictable. Automation has also resulted in higher efficiency in the lab - a higher sample throughput with fewer operators.
