Spectris plc, the precision instrumentation and controls company, announces the appointment of John O'Higgins as Chief Executive. He will join the company this month.
John, aged 41 and an Irish citizen, joins from Honeywell Inc, the US aerospace and technology products multinational. For the past three years, he has been resident in Shanghai as President of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions with 5,000 employees in R&D, manufacturing, and sales and marketing operations covering the whole of Asia Pacific. From 1991 to 2002 he was based in Brussels in a series of senior corporate development, strategic planning and general management roles in the automation and industrial divisions of the company.
His earlier career was with Daimler Benz in Stuttgart. He has an engineering degree from University College Dublin, a master's degree specialising in control engineering from Purdue in Indiana and an MBA from INSEAD.
Commenting on the appointment, John Poulter, the Chairman of Spectris, said, "John's background is an excellent fit with Spectris. His educational qualifications, track record within the instrumentation and controls industry and business experience in all significant global regions, equip him well to lead the company and drive its development".
